Good for Plex
I bought this as a Plex server. I admit that this is probably overkill but I have a bunch of different people streaming from different locations much of the time. I probably could have gotten away with something around the $150 mark, but for $300 and the idea of having an i7 with the extra cores didn’t seem like it was going to hurt.I upgraded from an old laptop I was using with a 1070 and a 7 series i7 I think with 4 cores and 8 threads. It is at least 7 years old.The setup was straightforward, someone mentioned that the default language is Chinese but it does not matter because the first screen you need to interact with is the language setup screen. I let it go through its updates which took about an hour or so, but once it was finished, it was ready to roll. There is no bloat from the manufacturer as far as I can see, just the usual Windows junk.It got a little noisy while it was doing its updates, but since it got all updated and began running Plex, it’s been silent. I 3d printed a little stand for it to hold it vertically.I was looking for extra cores and I could not find a cheaper way to get as many cores as this one. I do not think I am as much of a power user as some of the other reviews would suggest, but for my needs and my experience, it’s been great so far (even though it’s only been a day.) Fast, quiet, plenty of everything that I need.

UEFI/BIOS is lite on options, but virtualization appears to be enabled by default
I initially perused the UEFI/BIOS settings and was dissapointed. There does not appear to be any settings to enable vt-x , vt-d , or IOMMU support. Once I installed Fedora 40 on an additional NVMe drive, I checked the status of virtualization from the terminal. I was pleasantly surprised to find both vt-x and vt-d enabled by default. IOMMU is also enabled. Another pleasant surprise was instead of Realtek, the 2.5 GbE are both Intel i226-v. I don’t often write reviews, but this was information that I was looking for before the purchase and could not find.TLDR – BIOS options are lacking but virtualization support is enabled by default. 2.5 GbE are i226-v.

Great little box!
** Edit **. I have no explanation why but I ran the windows 11 update tool and installed every single update and after it rebooted the 2nd time it suddenly activated itself. Perhaps just some microsoft glitch, I upped my review to 5 stars, this little box is a beast and I’m very happy with it. It did come preconfigured with the language in chinese but a quick youtube video and I managed to click my way to English and its running great.I received the product, it was well packaged, and the components are as described, processor ram and NIC all good, it is a fast little bugger and the LED lights are very neat addition. The problem I have is that it said windows 11 comes loaded on it, and it *did* have windows 11, but its not active and it will not activate. Not sure what to do with it, may have to return and replace and hope for a better outcome. Needed it to have a legit version of windows on it.

Perfect for Blue Iris/Camera server
Made this into a camera security server using blue iris and windows server 2019. Handles a variety of cameras (about 15) in various resolutions (4k, 1440, 1080 and 720) with no issues. Thanks to Intel Quiksync for video encoding the CPU sits around 35% utilization at peak. Only uses 20W at peak! It replaced my old server that would hang around 165w doing the same thing.Itâs been running rock solid for a couple of months now. Stock other than a bigger NVME meant for this kind of use.Iâm quite happy!

Impress build quality and performance
I continue to be amazed at how small these devices are getting yet how much power is crammed into the small footprint. I needed a replacement for my venerable Dell desktop, so after shopping around I decided on the Peladn. Not the fastest processor available, but the 12th generation i5 does everything I need it to do and is a big step up from the Dell. Used Laplink software to transfer the software–a couple of glitches, but nothing that couldn’t be resolved easily and quickly. So now my Peladn is attached to the back of my monitor where I don’t even notice it, and it is doing a superlative job. I did purchase a 6-port USB hub which plugs into the USB-C port on the computer cause I have several external drives and quickly used up all the ports. But that only cost me about $17, and now I have more than enough USB ports to do anything I need.When I opened the computer to upgrade the RAM, I was particularly impressed by the build quality. Got it on sale, but even at the current price of $275, this mini is a bargain.
