    Panel view works superbly
Picked this up for my 6yo (just getting into reading) and after I figured out panel view for his favorite comic, he’s super into his Kindle. For the uninitiated, panel view enabled books let you double tap into portions of a full page with multiple panels and zoom into one panel at a time. Makes it much easier to read the text and appreciate the imagery. The Kindle will remember you activated panel view and show all subsequent pages that way. Double tap once more to deactivate panel view and go back to regular page view.Toss in the form factor, warm light and long battery, I’m a happy papa. Only suggestion would be to include a case that lets you prop the phone on its own without having to hold it (or as a upgrade option).

    Love!!!!
Upgraded from my kindle basic and it is even more amazing than I thought it would be! A bigger screen but not too big. It’s comparable to about the size of a book.I love that it has soft lighting features. It’s easy to navigate and makes reading so convenient and enjoyable. This one came with a free warranty which is a plus! If you use as an adult kindle and don’t add the kids function you will still get ads! Just an FYI. I don’t find ads as an inconvenience personally. They’re literally only there for a second until you swipe. The case that came with it was a good quality and colorful! I actually don’t mind it and am not in a hurry to switch it.

I think Kindles are one of the best inventions ever and this is a great improvement!
I have had the Kindle Keyboard, the first Kindle Paperwhite, and probably all other Kindle Paperwhites, and I can definitely say that this is the best one yet and the one I am happiest with. Amazon didn’t post the full pictures of the case so I have included those because I think a lot of people will be interested in seeing what they look like. The cover seems to be some sort of dystopian nightmare cityscape boat ride with a fuschia felt interior. I am not a fan of fuschia and pink but this will do I guess because I like the front cover. This new version is so much quicker and speedier than the previous versions. Quicker when scrolling, quicker when searching, quicker when typing. I love it and can’t go back to the previous version and I will be keeping this one.It does feel a little larger than the previous generation Kindle Paperwhite Kids which I had with the green cover. (I did like the green cover better.) I don’t think this new one needed to be larger. My old cover will not fit with this new Kindle Paperwhite Kids.Sadly, still no text-to-speech, of course. I think the Assistive Reader is unbearably clunky. The last thing you need to be aware of is that there are ads and no way to get rid of them, except you can turn the personalized ads off. I didn’t have ads on my previous Kindle Paperwhite Kids. I find this annoying.Happy Reading!

    Disappointing
Purchased for my 6 year old reader to utilize whispersync which promotes being able to read text while audible reads the story out loud. You can not do both at the same time. In order to do both you need a fire tablet; however I was looking for a device that only supports reading where other apps are not possible. very disappointed. Will return this.

    Grandkids love it!
The two granddaughters ages 7 and 9 both love their Kids Kindles and are reading much more than they used to. We got them the paperwhite and is easier on the eyes.

managing the software and subscriptions (Kids, Kids+) is inconvenient; cannot sideload for kids
I wasn’t interested in the literature offered on Kids Plus (a few good offerings, but mostly twaddle), and when I disabled it, I also inadvertently disabled Amazon Kids…which left the Home Screen littered with recommendations for literature inappropriate for my child. Moreover, Amazon has a streamlined setup if you want to set up Amazon Kids with a Kids + subscription and a child profile, but any deviation from this mainline is a PITA. Finding the various settings across the device itself, Amazon Parent Dashboard, Amazon Household etc is clunky and inconvenient. As long as the device is set up with a Kids profile, it is impossible to load content (such as public domain) onto the device that does not go through Amazon. This may be a safety feature for some families, but for others, it should be an option. While I appreciate that Amazon wants to lead purchasers (ultimately) to buy more books, they have a stranglehold on this device that makes it an excercise in frustration to use if you’re looking for a simple e-reader. Frankly, it makes me want to break their influence altogether. I think we will probably return this device.
