Out of the box and Hardware Illiterate
I bought this mini unit without almost any prior knowledge of PC hardware or specs. I had someone much more knowledgable than I review the specs and give me an informed decision for what I’d like to do with it which was play modded Skyrim and Fallout without those games looking hideous. I also purchased this with a $200 coupon so I paid around $650 for it. I will also be comparing it to my Series X in terms of performance.I can say after setting it up (which was very easy), installing Fallout 4 and modding it heavily, I am very pleased. With customized settings with a slightly lower draw distance (still further than my Series X draw distance), and view distance textures set to medium (series X comparable) and all other textures set to Ultra, and everything else set to high or ultra, I get consistent 60fps (self imposed hard cap) with dips down to 45-50 occasionally in the over world (Series X caps out around 40fps). Keep in mind, the game received a high resolution next gen texture update about a week ago so I am very impressed. The fact I now have access to Nexus mods with better performance is amazing.I also tried heavy processor games like oxygen not included and rimworld and stellaris and it runs amazingly with no slow downs or stuttering as of yet (I am aware these issues may come up many many hours later) which my 10 year old MSI laptop had real troubles running after a couple of hours and my Series X will experience slow downs with Stellaris deep into a campaign. The fan does kick up and it is not terribly loud but noticable compared to my console which is near silent even after 2 years. Thatbbeing said, it doesn’t sound like a jet engine either, it’s rather quiet all things cinsidered. However, I ran Fallout 4 for 6 hours straight on Ultra and the PC was only slightly warm to the touch on top, with the air feeling lukewarm that was venting out so no overheating concerns as of yet (my Series X has overheated three times in 2 years all attributed to Skyrim).Without an prior knowledge or know how, I’d say this was well worth the price for what I am looking to do with it which was to play modded slightly older games, and processor heavy indie games. I do not plan on playing newer AAA titles on this, as that what my console is for so I cannot give honest feedback on the performance there. But, I think this is a great affordable step into the PC gaming sphere. And it’s compact design also allows me to take it anywhere with me on trips which was the biggest factor in this purchase.

A lot of hype from the mini community
***************UPDATE*************** 12/2/2024Installed a MINISFORUM DEG1 External GPU Dock. This along with a RX 7700 XT from ASUS woke this machine up! I am talking Twin Turbo with a Hybrid Super Charger! My Games came to life @2K Resolutions on COD BO6. I get 112-120fps using this computer and the eGPU with GPU. I am now moving this from a 3 Star to a 5 Star review. Once I hooked up this eGPU and GPU my memory timings are faster. The whole machine is very impressive. Yes, it is a lot of money to spend, but, you get all the fun without the clutter. If you buy this PC, you need to buy the MINISFORUM DEG1 External GPU Dock with it and you can get it here on Amazon!Pros:1. It is small and will not take up a lot of room2. ECO friendly if you care about that3. Low power consumption which was nice on my off grid battery powered system. Max usage was around 45 watts when not in performance mode.4. 32GB DDR5 with 16 threads is nice to have in a little build like this.5. Expandable m.2 storage slot (I added an additional Gen4 7,100 m.2)6. Looks nice7. Expandable GPU Oculink slot8. Plenty of I/O for a mini unit9. Quick customer support response10. Plays Halo Infinite Great! 100+ FPS at medium settings 1080p11. Supports 3 monitors at 4K12. Included bracked went on the back of my monitor easily.Cons:1. Price point. You can build a system with the same specs for the same price using the AMD 8700G Processor.2. Does not support XMP Profiles, 99% of all memory modules have this support.Nov 21, 2024 12:27 AMHi Christopher,–Thanks for reaching out to us,All GMKtec Mini PCs doesn’t support XMP;–Please let me know if you need further assistance, thank you.–Kind regards,TerrySales & Customer Support Manager3. This is advertised as a Gaming PC. I have ran several titles on this machine. Call of Duty Warzone BO6 & Fortnite (Low-Medium Settings averaged 30-45fps @720p & 1080p)4. After 15min of long use, I witnessed screen tearing in 4K watching YouTube videos5. Within 5min of launching into Fortnite or COD, I noticed tearing in game and terrible video lag. Mostly in COD. The COD issue could be with COD and not this PC as the COD Code has many complaints for Console and PC’s on Reddit.6. UEFI not supported. Uses old BIOS GUI7. Cooling fan is sub par (Needs a way to update it with a Noctua Fan & or LED Lights)8. Included bracket could be built a little more friendly as to not remove the rubber footing from the case when installing on the back of a monitor or a 3rd party mount. There are more pros than cons. If you are in the market or have some cash to burn, this could be a fun little toy for most. I did purchase the eGPU Oculink Dock for this model. I will update with those specs and data when it gets here the first of December. Overall I think in 2024 we could have done a little better. I understand it is hard to balance TDP while expecting fast CPU & APU power. This can cause a system to get very hot.I’ll update more in the next 2 weeks.

    I wasn’t sure but I am now.
I bought this as a small secondary machine that I was hoping I might be able to run one particular game that has issues on my main system. I love tiny machines and normally buy refurbished Lenovo Tiny systems but I already know their graphics would not be remotely up to the task. So, I took a shot and purchased this one after reading loads of the reviews. For reference the game I wanted to run is 7 Days to Die.Well, the setup took no time at all. Windows 11 was activated, I ran updates and finally downloaded the game. The networking was great (ethernet) and the game downloaded in record time (speedtest is showing 980 on my gig connection). Now to see if it works. Is it up to my main gaming system? No but the other system has an RTX 2060 so the graphics comparison isn’t truly fair. Running with everything set to high it runs a dismal 12 fps. I turned down a number of the high impact settings and got ti up to 26 fps which is surprising playable. So, is it a great gaming system? Probably not, but does it do what I needed it for? Absolutely.I would say if you are looking for low end gaming it might work well for you. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive, but very nice general use system this is great. I have no idea what the life span will be for it as I’ve only had it about 1 month but so far I am pretty happy with the purchase. Now if you will excuse me I am off to kill some zombies.
