Casper van Uden claimed his maiden grand tour victory in a dash end on stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia to prime an all-Dutch podium in Lecce. The Picnic PostNL rider Van Uden powered forward of his compatriot Olav Kooij (Visma–Lease a Bike) and Maikel Zijlaard (Tudor) in a bunch sprint for the road. Mads Pedersen completed fourth to retain the maglia rosa.
After the primary three levels in Albania and a subsequent relaxation day, the Giro returned to Italy in Puglia, with a mostly-flat 189-kilometre run from Alberobello to Lecce.
Following an early break from Spaniard Francisco Muñoz (Staff Polti VisitMalta) there was a crash within the peloton with round 125km left that noticed Pedersen amongst these caught up in addition to Tom Pidcock and Nickolas Zukowsky, each of Q36.5. The Canadian Zukowsky, making his debut within the occasion, was compelled to desert with a suspected fractured collarbone.
Because the groups regarded to maintain their sprinters in place within the closing metres, Van Uden timed his transfer to perfection – securing his first stage win since June 2024.
Within the common classification, Pedersen of Lidl-Trek is 7sec forward of Primoz Roglic (Crimson Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), with Mathias Vacek (Lidl–Trek) third, 14sec down. Wednesday’s stage 5 is a 151km route from Ceglie Messapica to Matera.
