Customers say

Customers appreciate the headphones’ sound quality, comfort, and quality. They find the sound fantastic, with good passive noise insulation. The headphones fit snugly and comfortably around the ears. The buttons are solid and tactile, with a powerful and tight bass that doesn’t overpower the mids. The ear cushions are nice and the headphones are made of supple calf leather and aluminum. Some customers are satisfied with the aesthetics and weight. However, opinions differ on the build quality, battery life, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Some of the best sounding and most comfortable phones available for under $300
I started looking for headphones primarily because I wanted some I could wear for hours, and secondarily that sounded really good. (I’m a musician, so sound is important.)These H4s are the best ones I found under $300.I considered the following:B&O H8JBL E65BTNCBose QuietComfort 35 (Series II)Sony MDR1000X/BSony XB950N1I also tried multiple cheaper headphones like Avantree 40 and Symphonized Headphones. They were exactly that – cheap – mediocre materials and average sound. In this same class are the AUSDOM headphones I already owned, which were also not comfortable when wearing for hours (the reason to start the search).Unfortunately, these cheap headphones get high ratings on Amazon, because most people are just looking for cheap headphones that sound OK. That makes it difficult for those of us really interested in sound. The B&O H8s, which are almost identically constructed, simply didn’t sound as good to me as the H4s, which is fine, as the H8’s are $100 more. The Bose phones were the most comfortable of all the phones I tried. They’re light and fit nicely over the ears. However, the H4s sound slightly better, believe it or not. I was surprised. Fortunately, I was able to get my own tunes hooked up to both for an apples to apples comparison. The H4s performing better worked out well for me, as I was able to get the H4s $100 cheaper than the Bose phones. :)The JBLs sounded great and were fairly comfortable. While they appeared to be sturdy, they apparently have a circuitry defect per multiple Amazon reviews. The Sony MDR1000X/B phones sounded good. In fact, I saw a recent article that suggests they have surpassed the Bose phones as the best ANC phones available. However, I did not get them because a) they were not quite as comfortable as the H4s and b) they didn’t sound quite as good as the H4s (or Bose) to me.The Sony XB950N1 phones were some of the most comfortable (light and not tight on the head). As well, they have good bass, as advertised. However, the sound was a tad bit muddier than the H4s. For the price/performance, if I hadn’t gotten the H4s, I would have gotten these. As other reviews suggest, the H4s don’t have Active Noise Cancelling. However, they block out more sound than most headphones I’ve ever had.The H4s were the third most comfortable phones I looked at (Bose were #1 and XB950N1 #2).The sound quality on the H4s was the best of the phones I looked at. (Bose was #2.)The construction of the H4s is the best of the phones I looked at – very solid. In fact, a bit too heavy for some people’s tastes, but fine by me.The bass on the H4s is definitely there. You just have to make sure you can tweak the sound on whatever player you use, because out of the box the H4s are not as bass-heavy as some prefer.Note that price was a tertiary consideration for me. Amazon has some killer deals on phones that are refurbished or slightly used. I was able to get some practically brand new H4s for about $80 cheaper than new ones.

Gorgeous, unique sound, and ridiculously comfortable.
I bought my wife a pair of bluetooth headphones for her birthday, and I got jealous since I was constantly tethered to the my laptop when listening with my Sennheiser Momentum wired phones. I wanted something where I could listen wirelessly but not sacrifice sound quality. These headphones sound at least as good as my wired phones but with a very unique sound signature that is a little heavier on treble than I expected. Since I’m a treble junkie anyway, this is really working for me.Songs like Ghost Town by Shiny Toy Guns sound intense and the bassier parts of the drum track still cut through enough without blotting out the mids and treble so you get this great wall of sound. Minerva by Deftones sounds like a warzone. The long fuzzed chords blast as intensely as they ever did, but the quieter nuances of the grace notes and the quiet hum of the vocals in the verse are never lost. Acoustic songs like Death Cab for Cutie’s I Will Follow You Into The Dark sound bright and clear and the vocals feel detailed like you’re in the room with the band. I’m relistening to all my Spotify playlists. It’s like hearing all my favorites for the first time. The design is beautiful and the earpads feel like clouds. The memory foam in the pads blocks outside noise so well that I have to take them off when I need to hear something outside of them instead of just pausing the music like I do with the Sennheisers. I’m currently in my second hour of wearing them and where some phones seem to get heavier on your head, these still feel like they’re barely there. My only complaint is that I had to boost the volume significantly with my EQ to get the volume level I wanted, but I will note that my desired volume level is considered “unwise.” Even with that, there is still zero distortion. These may be my favorite headphones. Period.**Edit: New Noise by Refused. I’ve never heard that song NOT distort in a pair of headphones. I thought that’s just what the song sounded like. Holy moly.

Everything as expected and The best as always. But they must provide a pouch. Or at least some kind of a sling bag.. And at this price point noise cancellation can also be expected. Anyway, it’s a great purchase and a Good experience.

I’ve never spent anything like this much on headphones before but the H4 mk1 reduced to £119 drew me in. Would have quite liked the gray but not for £50 extra and definitely not £200 for the mk2. Well, the sound quality is nothing less than I expected. Not blow away awesome but very nice indeed. The B&O app is nicely done and the EQ capability is subtle. What I really love is the quality feel of the materials used. The styling and finish have obviously taken a lot of work and the comfort level is outstanding. They don’t slip on your head. Lying down, walking around or sitting down all day they stay put and don’t make your ear holes sweaty. The adjustability provides the perfect clamping force on the noggin such that you forget you’re wearing them after a while. Battery life is awesome so far. Lack of a carry bag or case is no problem for me and let’s face it, you can buy them very cheaply on amazon. Another plus for me is that they don’t have any LEDs blinking away under normal use. I never thought I could heart a pair of headphones but then I’ve never had a B&O product before. These are wicked!
