Great PC for the price. I recommend it.
I’ve used Dell PC’s in the work place for over 15 years, including this model. I was looking at replacing an old one and thought I’d check Amazon for a 990 and I’m happy to report after one month, this is a really good deal. If you are looking for a fast (not blazing fast) reliable PC for home or business, you can’t go wrong with a Dell 990. It came with Windows 10 Pro, 500 GB SATA drive and 8 Gb of RAM. After registering Windows (you can do it online), I checked for other pre-installed software and found Microsoft Office 2016 which requires product purchase for continued use. I noticed the installed version was 32-bit. If you run MS Office you’d want to remove the 32-bit version and install the 64-bit one. There is no other third party software installed which is great news, since you don’t want the clutter of software you don’t use. I do recommend buying it with a SSD drive (250/500 GB) and 16 GB of memory. If you run dual monitors, add a video card. A few more dollars but worth the cost. If you do not upgrade anything at all, you’ll still end up with a pretty good solid computer for $200.00 dollars. After applying Windows updates, I proceeded to install all the apps I usually run and is running really well. If I buy another Dell PC, I will make sure it is from SkyTech.

The ATX tower is a good PC for users still running older rigs…
I wanted a new desktop computer that could handle video editing and light gaming.I bought this ATX tower knowing I would probably have to tinker with it to get it close to what I needed. When the computer arrived, initial setup was painless.I’m not a fan of Windows 10, but found tweaks on Youtube that let you disable annoying features like CORTANA.So, here is what I did for my new PC…*I bought a new video card, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOFD0G8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1*I bought a new power supply (if in the fture I want to put in a more powerful video card)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H33SFJU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I also bought another 8 gigs of memory, bumping it up to 16 gigs.I bought a wireless network adapter (WIFI connector) for internet…https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IFXQFU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I have to say, that with all these enhancements, my ‘new’ computer is running smooth as silk.I am very happy with my purchase.I haven’t had time to edit short films on it yet. My next big purchase will be adding a few TB Hard Drives.I have installed games on it though. After the enhancements of the power supply, video cards and Ram, this system can run older games like Far Cry 3, Dying Light, Metro Last Light and Sleeping Dogs comfortably. Resident Evil 7 runs well if you tweak the settings, and games like Firewatch, Layers of Fear and Oxenfree look and play great.Pros:It’s a medium sized ATX tower, so it’s very easy to add a new power supply, video card and Ram.The case is low key but attractive. The computer has LOTS of USB ports.Inexpensive, runs a decent version of Windows 10. (Windows is still best for gaming imho)Cons:None for me. But if you go into this without considering adding a video card and stuff, you might not like what you get out of the box. I only spent an extra $100 bucks and still got what I consider to be a kick ass deal.

Old hardware, but great deal for what you get
I got the Optiplex 990 just like the description. It was shipped in a well-padded box. It also included a power cord and a smaller box with keyboard, mouse, and a USB WiFi adapter nub. There is no graphics card – the motherboard has an integrated graphics DisplayPort output that worked.I attached the PC to my monitor, plugged in the keyboard/mouse/WiFi nub, powered it on, and it went through the Windows 10 initial setup process smoothly without any problems. It was a genuine Windows 10 Pro installation (fully activated). I could tell that it was Pro and not Home because I was able to activate Remote Desktop server. The keyboard was a bit low-quality – it had the “” key between the “,” and Enter. The mouse seemed defective as it would only move the pointer left/right, not up/down. Not a big deal as I had others. The case only came with one of the plastic hard drive sleds, though there are 2 internal slots. There are 4x SATA ports on the motherboard. All of the USB ports are USB 2.0 (not 3.0).There are 4x RAM slots on the motherboard for 8GB total, with 2x of the slots are populated with Hynix 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-1200U-11-11-B1 sticks. You could upgrade the RAM.The 500GB drive is a spinning-disk drive, so bootup takes ~3-4min. Using Windows was ok, but seemed sluggish because of the hard drive.I decided to get a small 240GB SATA solid-state drive (SSD, ~$30) – this was the single biggest “bang for your buck” improvement I could make and substantially eliminated the “sluggishness” of the machine.Later I also added a larger 3TB SATA hard drive, but was having trouble with it being recognized in Windows. Turned out that the BIOS was very old (2014ish?), but it was easy to update by downloading the utility from Dell’s support site.I knew that this was a used PC and could have scratches, etc, but was surprised at how few scratches there actually were. Just a few dings, not bad at all.The Dell cases are very well designed to make it easy to open and modify the system, and are space-efficient.Overall this is fairly old hardware that has a lot of usable life left with slight modification, and is a great deal for what you get.

It never did open up with Windows 10 and there’s no phone support. Still not working.
I Call Dell.com USA . They say I would have to contact the previous onwer to reregister the computer in my name if I wanted any Dell Support. When I gave them the model number s/n number. They Laughed because Dell hasn’t been able to update any drivers for Windows 10 operating system on a desktop that old. It’s my fault for not buying a newer one $$ . And also for not shipping it back to the seller.

Onboard Video is the worst I’ve seen in years. Get a good video card and you won’t be disappointed. Onboard GPU only good to 1/2 frames per Second. My 10 year old Zotec GT 640 was good for 15 FPS.Shipped with WI/Fi adapter that drops every 30 min.. Threw it in the bush..

La description du produit indique “16 Go DDR3 RAM” alors que celui reçu n’a que “8 Go DDR3 RAM”.Malgré cela, cet ordinateur fonctionne très bien pour un 8 Go DDR3 Ram. Il est même très silencieux.Mais j’ai payé pour avoir un 16 Go DDR3 RAM et je ne l’ai pas reçu.Et je suis très déçu!

This product arrived with back PCI slot area having dents. It hasnât been displaying consistently even though it boots. I was able to get to the display going and then it stopped. I will try another cable and if the problem persists – return or discount (if I need to fix the problem myself)
