Great! Awesome! Fast! A monster! And upgraded to Samsung evo 500GB m.2 SSD
My first gaming laptop..I have owned this laptop for two months now, and i wanted to wait and write a review until i had a good amount of time with it, and now with over 100 hours of game play I’m ready! and boy ol boy am i impressed!all the way form how the customer service was to shipping to when i first un boxed it and saw how sexy this thing looks. the set up was fast and easy. and has been smooth sailing every since. This is my first modern laptop and first in the way of playing games. I was always a consul guy, but wanted the power of PC with the mobility. And well this Lenovo Y700 has done all that and more! It blows the performance of my PS4 out of the water! I can now play the Witcher 3 with mods and at a better graphical settings then my PS4! I was worried about play times and safe temps but have found running both CAM and MSI Afterburner this laptop has superior cooling. I have yet to get any temps over 80c and that playing for up to 5 hours. The temperatures actually do not increase with play time, it tends to warm up within the first few min of game play and maintains, yet once you are done playing cooks of fast back to its normal 20-30 operating temps. I do use a cooling pad) I now primarily use this computer for gaming, i have it setting on the cooling pad under my VIZIO tv, super easy to hookup with an HDMI, i ended up getting a Logitech wireless track ball mouse that was plug and play. I prefer to use a controller. Hooking up my DS4 controller was supper easy via Bluetooth and i use JoytoKey to map the controller for some older games like the Witcher 1. And i can also use my Sony playstation gold wireless headphones, all i had to do was plug in the receiver into the USB port and it connected! I am very very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend getting this!I may do the SSD upgrade many people talk about? Filled by using to 16 mb of ram, even though that could be overkillLastly don’t let the low rating reviews scar you, I read almost all the reviews and research this computer extensively YouTube is actually a really good source.Hope this review helps you outThis is the update for installation of the SSD Hopefully this write up will help somebody else with the problems I ran into on my installation. When I put the SSD in the computer all those steps really easy there’s actually some good YouTube videos. But when I turned on the computer right clicked on the start menu and went to “disk management” and it was not listed..So then I had to go into the “bios” here is a easy explanation at this link […]Once in there it still wasn’t displayed so you have to go over to the boot tab and changed the type to “Legacy” and then the one under it to “Legacy First”. Then go back to the info screen and it’s there!? After that go back and turn off Legacy (like it was before) but save changes and boot it up… Boom ssd is available! Weird.Next Boot into Windows, go to “Disk Management”, create & format (GPT) the M.2,This is where I ran into more issues… was Data Migration Software, which will do all the work for you, even making the M.2 the boot drive. What DIDNT WORK! The free program from Samsung didn’t work it migrated but the computer would boot from the new SSD and I had a repeating blue screen where I had to go back into “bios” and switch start up to the older “HHD”WHAT WORKED!! I purchased to $20 “paragon software” […]. Make sure you read the instructions and the trouble shooting guide. Once installed I thought it froze because it displayed 0% for a few hours but after about 4 hours it worked. And did an amazing job! It actually named the new SSD as the “C” drive (so then no “steam” migration or anything was needed!) and renamed the HHD as the “E” drive.I hope this helps anyone who finds it! It took me hours of searching all over the web.

This laptop convinced me switching to PC from Mac was a good choice.
I am incredibly impressed with this machine. I had been using Mac products since 2007 and recently decided to make the switch back to PC. I wanted something capable of gaming and this machine is show its worth. The speakers are loud and the sub helps fill out the low end. It isn’t the BEST sound quality (I am extremely picky), but in comparison to other laptops you cannot get better sound for the price. It also has a Dolby application which I haven’t messed with too much that could probably tighten things up.The screen is awesome, though it does seem a bit dim even at its brightest. It is a cross between glossy and matte allowing for the sharpness of glossy with a bit of the glare protection of a matte. I really enjoy the compromise of the two options.I am very impressed with the keyboard. It isn’t flimsy, the travel and click is satisfying. The track pad seems decent and receptive to gestures, but I rarely use it as I primarily use a mouse when on it. All-in-all I am very happy with the purchase and plan on investing a little bit of cash soon to upgrade the ram and possibly expend to an SSD as well.

Great gaming rig with a few issues (mainly Windows 10)
I wanted a laptop that could do some casual couch gaming on, and this fit the bill. The negatives are that it only contains 8 gigs of ram, the hard drive is an old 5400, and the screen has a anti-glare filter over it that really mutes colors. After ordering this I quickly jumped on a M.2 500 gig drive, as well as 16 gigs of 2133 memory. The laptop was a little bit sluggish but once the M.2 was in, windows migrated (Samsung migration app), and the boot order changed, the laptop was able to book in mere seconds. Swapping out the memory also helped speed up the laptop. It can run a lot of games at high or higher settings. Frankly, I’m very impressed with the GTX 960M in this laptop. The last fix was to get the matte cover off the screen. I dug around on the internet and found that the screen can be removed with the help of a hair dryer and a lot of patience. It took me about 20 minutes to peel it off. The screen underneath is quite gorgeous. Since I don’t take the laptop outside, I didn’t find the matte cover useful. This is the first windows machine I’ve had in 3 or 4 years. I went Mac and have been very happy with my last two macbook pros. The only issue is that I can’t really game on them. I’m not about to give up my macs, though. I’m a full time writer and you simply cannot beat the keyboard and touchpad on a mac. I’ve written 12 novels on mac and I find the cramped keyboard on the Y700 very difficult to type on. I wish they would have dumped the numpad and made the keyboard larger. I constantly hit the num lock key while going for the tiny backspace key.The touch pad on the Y700 is surprisingly – not bad. If you’ve used a macbook, you know nothing compares. But the Y700 is pretty good. I’m sure it’s a setting I can change but I wish the touchpad had two finger swipe (previous page in browsers) like the mac offers. One last thing. I’ve been away from Windows for a while. I missed Windows 8 completely. Windows 10 sucks. I’ve wasted more time trying to update this operating system than I care to admit. There is some kind of bug that is preventing the latest update (anniversary edition) from installing. I’ve simply given up. I know I’ve already said a lot of things about the Mac but there is a reason they have gained in popularity. When you get a new Macbook, you fire it up, sign in, and you’re done. When you get a windows machine, you start it up, wait an hour for “critical updates” to install, then you wait for more updates to install. It takes hours to get this POS/OS up and running. Not to mention the ridiculousness involved in a huge update failing to install over and over again. I did a lot of research, tried multiple fixes, but there seems to be no way to get the latest updates installed. I give up. I spent 25 years in IT fixing computers and this one finally did me in.Other than the keyboard and Widows 10 wackiness, this is a fine fine laptop. Gaming, once again, is sweet on this thing. So far I have played a lot of Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Subnautica, Grim Dawn, and the mighty Civ VI which runs really well on this laptop.
