Ideal for travel with super long battery-life
While I have a current model MacBook, I have always preferred the Windows operating system and the Surface Laptop implements it wonderfully. It has a perfect dimensions with a screen aspect ratio of 3:2 – just as wide as most 13.5 inch [the Surface has a 13.8 inch screen] laptops but with a taller screen. I find that this ratio hits the sweet spot. The case is solid magnesium-aluminum alloy with no flex. The keyboard is also very solid with a really good feel on pressing the keys. This unit has the new Windows AI key but it just replaces a redundant key so that skin keyboard covers for older Surface Laptops will fit this one as well. As with all recent Surface Laptops, the case design is the most elegant of any laptop that I have had. The slots for air ventilation and sound from the internal speakers are hidden. There are no laptops with as clean a case as this one. The new Snapdragon X Plus processor is ultra-fast and power-efficient. It can now be left on indefinitely like Apple iPads or MacBooks, with little lost of battery charge. I just let it go to sleep and when I return to work on it, it uses the Windows Hello IR camera for instant back-to-work. It continues to use the Microsoft magnetic charging system that I like since it is designed to detach from the computer when the cable is pulled. I notice that some will complain about proprietary charging connectors but they overlook the fact that this Surface Laptop can be also charged with any USB charger using its USB-C port.

Top-Notch Hardware and Impressive Battery Life Make This a Standout Device
I’ve owned many devices over the years, and this one ranks among the best. The hardware is excellentâtop-notch quality. If I had to nitpick, I’d prefer a slightly better display. Surface devices sometimes feel a bit “milky” to me, but that’s just personal preference. The display would definitely benefit from an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare. The speakers are solid, though not quite on par with the MacBook’s, which is fair given the price difference. My workflow is Microsoft-centric and relatively straightforward, and so far, Iâve had no software compatibility issues. All my peripherals, including two printers and a scanner, work seamlessly with the default drivers.I havenât used it long enough to fully assess battery life, but so far, itâs impressive. The device is instant-on, and overnight battery drain is negligibleâmaybe 1% at most. Iâve comfortably made it through an entire workday without worrying about charging.Overall, this is a fantastic machine. Iâm excited to see Snapdragon providing solid competition to Intel and look forward to the innovations ahead in the coming years.

Lightweight Attractive Lap
I like everything about the laptop. I love the sapphire color. The keyboard is comfortable. It has one USB-A port and two USB-C ports. I was able to get a flash drive that fits both types of ports. The laptop charges fast with its magnetic charging port. The screen size is almost 14 inches, which is great for such a small computer. The battery life is much better than any windows computer I have ever owned although when I work all day on it, I do eventually have to re-charge it. The only compatibility issue I’ve had is with my old laser jet printer. It initially recognized it, but I was not able to open the driver once I downloaded it, but I might have that problem with any new computer. I had to change my mouse to a dark pointer, so I would not lose it on the screen, but that seems to have done the trick. I never hear the fan. The computer never gets warm (only the flash drive). The track pad is the best I’ve ever had on a Windows device. Everything is good. I don’t use a lot of additional software programs, just Microsoft Office, so everything works fine. It is the computer I purchased in order to get my work done. I do a lot of online grading and Zoom classes. I’m revising my review because I had some typos in it.

not as good as the hype
As a software developer, I purchased this laptop for its advertised battery life due to my past struggles with battery performance of some laptops. After using it for a month, I have the following observations:1. Android Development: If you are an Android developer using Android Studio extensively, I recommend against this laptop for two reasons. First, to the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to create virtual devices to emulate any Android version. At least, i failed to do it. This necessitates the use of real devices for testing, meaning you would need to have several real phones and tablets available. Second, when I connected my phone (S24 Ultra) as an emulator, the laptop battery drained very fast reaching 5% in about four hours. Although this duration is quite long, I would have preferred if it lasted at least ten hours. This way, I don’t need to carry a charger every where i go.2. Charging Indicator: When charging the laptop while it is powered off, there is no indication of when the battery is fully charged, as the light does not change its color (remains white). To check if it is fully charged, you have to power on the laptop first in order to see the battery percentage. I would expect the light to either turn off or change to green when fully charged.3. Keyboard Design: The keyboard is good but has two issues. First, it lacks a Ctrl key on the right side, which has been replaced by a Copilot button. As an Android developer, the Ctrl key is crucial for commenting out code in Android Studio. Secondly, it appears that some keys are missing; for example, I do not see the Print Screen key to take a screenshot. Additionally, I wish the power button was located elsewhere to create room for other buttons.4. Charger Compatibility: [updated 21/11/2024]. Today i managed to charge this laptop with a USB-C charger. I do not know why it did not work before. Maybe there was a software update.5. [Updated 20/11/2024]: Today, I had an unexpected realization. I use Surfshark as my antivirus and VPN, but I discovered it cannot protect my laptop. Please see the attached screenshot for reference. Consequently, I will need to purchase another antivirus solution for this laptop.

And it seem to run cooler than my old surface did which I didn’t expect. The new battery charging management system is fine even if it had mewondering why it was stubbornly maintining a 74% max charge at first.

I was a little hesitant to move to an ARM based processor. After doing some research, watching reviews and looking at the applications I needed, I felt confident in purchasing. Everything has worked really well. I also purchased a 1TB micro SSD to put movies on as I plan to travel a lot. Battery lasts a long time without sacrificing performance.
