Great alternative to other open-ear headphones
Already had several earbuds and headphones but was looking for an open-ear setup to fill a niche. I wanted something I could wear and listen to music while still being able to hear important sounds such as when walking in busy areas. While cycling and working out I use a set of Shokz Openrun bone conducting headphones and they’re great to still be able to have decent situational awareness while listening to music but they have a fairly big case that makes them less handy to tote around on a whim. Alternatively while compact and easy to carry, even with the “ambient noise” function on my Sony noise-canceling earbuds still have a muffled effect just due to them being in-ear and blocking your ear canal.I tried the Bose Ultra Open earbuds first but while the audio quality was excellent for open-ear earbuds I was disappointed by how poorly they secured to my ears. Any decent jostling and one would fall off – something that’s really concerning at their very high price point. While looking for alternatives I stumbled on these Monster AC601s on sale and couldn’t be happier. The audio quality is less than the Bose Ultras but more than good enough for my needs (they have less volume and bass than the Bose but even the Ultras don’t have great bass – not a surprise with their small size and open ear nature). The security in how they fit is way better though because of the two large rounded ends that fit securely in and behind your ear. They felt very comfortable while wearing them during hours-long workouts and never felt like they’d fall off at anytime. Putting the Monsters on was also much easier thanks to their longer bridge portion versus the small one on the Bose. They also look more stylish IMHO than the Bose Ultras with the gold Monster logo and the slimmer profile of the band connecting the two end pieces. If you were attracted to Bose for the “earring” look, I think the Monsters pull it off way better. The case looks better too than the plain plastic Bose one.The only thing the Monster is lacking for me is an app to control the sound quality and allow for future firmware updates like the Bose Ultras and my Sony earbuds and headphones. It’s not a big loss though since they’re perfectly functional without it.One important caveat though is that I got these Monsters on sale at a fraction of their original price which made them price competitive with similar cheaper open earbuds like the Anker Soundcore C30i. Since I wasn’t sure how long the sale would last I bought an extra pair since they were so cheap and at the sale price they are a five-star buy. At their full retail price of $150 though they’re a harder recommendation since there are much cheaper alternatives like the Ankers and slightly more expensive but more full-featured rivals like the Huawei Freeclip. For full retail I’d say they’re a three-star rating at best but if Monster offers them again on sale I’d say snap one up without hesitation.

    Not great
Not much about these earbuds to like. The touch areas are unresponsive unless you are not intending to touch them. Trying to raise or lower the volume never works, but if I try to adjust their position on my ear, the earbuds will go through all sorts of commands which end up in them not producing sound anymore.Their size make them awkward to position correctly, and the section that wraps around to the backside of the ear is too flexible to really hold the earbud in position. The earbuds look good in their case, but even trying to remove them is a hassle. They sit so low in the case and every surface of the earbud is rounded, making them difficult to grab any part of them. I suppose you can shake them out of the caseEven trying to get both earbuds to synch up is a gamble. Sometimes they work, other times only one will connect. The only way to turn them off is returning them to their charging case, so you’re left putting them back in their case and taking them out repeatedly, in hopes of them connecting properly. For such expensive earbuds, I would have expected a lot less hassle.

    Extremely comfortable
Sometimes I forget that I’m actually wearing these earbuds when I pause my music. They are great for exercising, cycling, or working in. The sound quality is good but the volume doesn’t seem to get very loud because they’re open ear buds. Extremely comfortable compared to in ear earbuds.

    They are okay.
The sound is what you would expect from open ear. If you looking for bass these are not for you. I can listen to music and hear my surroundings. Comfort level is up to the person, but for me they start to hurt the back of my ear after 45 mins to a hour. I’m glad I got them at the discounted price because I can’t see myself happy paying “ I believe $115”. There is no way these are worth that. I’m not sure how long the battery life is. I don’t use them often.

Average at best but customer service top notch!
So first if all, this is my first open air buds I’ve ever tried. They are ok at best and certainly not worth spending more than the $40 sale price. What I do love is the ear design and comfort. What I don’t like is poor sound (have to have tablet almost full blast to adequately hear anything). Since not being used for calls, I cannot speak to those functions, but I hate not having an app for these because trying to adjust sound level is nightmare using just buds themselves. I’ll keep since they were cheap but definitely will get better pair under different maker.Update: The seller reached out directly and offered to send a replacement or refund my purchase. I chose to get refund as much of my dislike is the design itself in providing the sound quality, but i will definitely buy from them again in the future and I am greatly satisfied with the customer service. THANK YOU!!

    Poor sound quality
I’ll Start with the good. These look amazing with a very high quality small form factor charging case. Now the bad. The volume is very low, especially for $149 list. No bass even for open ear buds. I really was hoping the review were some people not understand the type of sound quality you get from open ear buds vs. regular ear buds, this is not the case. I do not recommend buying these unless you want low sound quality wirh very little bass in a quiet area. It’s difficult for me to believe these are by Monster. I have have other Monster audio items, I absolutely love; not sure what happened with these buds.(in my opinion)

    Not great audio quality
I got these earbuds because I was looking for some open ear devices and I did not want to spend some hundreds in the Bose earbuds. In general, the audio is not great, and I may say barely good. I was expecting a little better sound quality because monster had some nice products around, but this was not the case for this model. Not worth the original price, but if you get it at a big discount and only want to hear a standard quality of music, they are ok.
