The phone a lot of folks actually *need*
I wanted to wait a week before writing a review so this was more than just a first impression.To preface, I think the mobile phone industry – for the most part – has been competing to create devices no one is asking for. This has been frustrating for me, my kids, and friends. I do NOT need a fragile slab of glass that’s hard to hold, has a crappy battery, but a camera that can pick out a flea’s nose hairs from a mile away.What I NEED is a something that is designed to be held by human hands, is durable, and has a battery that doesn’t need to be charged if I have the audacity to actually use the phone.This thing knocks it out of the park, and since we purchased two different Ulefone devices in the last month, there’s a bit of a debate as to who in the family gets which device.I’ll state the obvious first… the battery life is amazing. Aside from the massive battery that’ll easily net you at least 3 days (maybe even a week if you’re miserly), the phone has some software tricks to make it last even longer. There’s an app called “DuraSpeed,” and I suggest you open that and learn to use it. It’s like another layer on top of Android’s stock battery optimization setting to help the battery last even longer than it would otherwise.It seems crazy durable, and part of that is obviously the rugged construction, but also the fact that it’s heavy enough be held IN your hand instead of ON your hand. It’s also dramatically more ergonomic than those slabs. This is obvious the second you put it in your hand. If all you’ve had for the past few years is those flat slabs of glass, you’ll see what I mean. This feels like it’s made to be held. The result is that instead of having a death-grip on your fragile slab of glass phone, you’ll have this comfortably resting in your hand – perhaps with the lanyard around your wrist.Software-wise, if a near-stock Android experience is what you’re after, this is great. There’s zero bloat-ware – unlike EVERY SINGLE PHONE for sale at any US phone carrier’s store. There are apps Ulefone has installed, but they’re things you want/need for this specific model. For example, there’s the camera app custom made for the night-vision features. The camera app is also much more than just the night-vision trick. It’s a truly full featured and easy to use app. In the past, I’ve always installed “open camera” so I could avoid crappy stock camera apps, and I installed it on this phone as soon as I got it. No lie… I’ve never used it. The stock camera app is far better in my opinion – more options, more controls, easier to use…Processor – I know some snobs might think the phone isn’t up to snuff because it doesn’t have the most recent snapdragon or whatever, but for my use, it’s more than adequate. I can and have run two apps in split screen mode, had a video streaming in pop-up mode, and had the screen recorder running in the background with no problem or stuttering at all. That’s 4 apps all at once. As I write this, my son is playing War-Robots, which seems like a pretty graphic-intensive multi-player online game. I’ve also run video games with the screen recorder running in the background. Exactly what else do I need my processor to do?I do have an unboxing video on YouTube about the phone – just look up Roopull’s Videos. I’ll have a full review after using it for a couple of weeks.So far, I love the thing.It isn’t perfect for everyone, obviously. If you like wearing tight pants, you might not fit this in your pocket. If you wear tight pants, though, you’re probably not even considering a durable phone.It is obviously heavier than most “slabs of glass” phones, but like I mentioned, that’s mostly a feature in my opinion. You’ll never be frantically patting your pockets looking for it thinking you left it behind. While it’s heavier than other phones, it doesn’t pull my pants down nor is it uncomfortable to hold (that kid playing War Robots has been playing for an hour and hasn’t complained about the weight at all). One trick the size of the phone provides that may or may not be intentional is that the phone can stand on its side on its own. I’ll find myself with this laying on its side – upright – on the bedside stand playing a movie while I have my head on the pillow watching. ZERO phones I’ve ever had before could do that.If I come across a flaw I think should be mentioned, I’ll add it here… so far, so good!A few weeks later…I actually like it more now than before. Every other phone I have feels cheap & insignificant. Not having to worry about charging – ever – is a godsend. Not worrying about breaking it… freeing. This is a monster of a phone
Although I did not purchase this phone through Amazon< I still feel that it should be reviewed on here. The first thing you will notice upon receiving it is its weight. It's no lightweight, but you have to realize that there are a few reasons for the weight. First, it's a large phone, and the armored case makes it larger and heavier than non armored phones. Second, it has a very large battery inside, so even more weight. For comparison, my old Samsung S51 with an otter case weighs 8 oz., whereas the 27T Pro weighs 16 oz. with the screen protector installed. Something that you do need to be warned about is that these phones are so new that there isn't a full owners manual even availabe yet, so you will have to do what I'm doing and just hunt through the phone to find them until one is published. I've so far played around a bit with the FLIR and the night vision cams, and they both work great, as does the regular cam. There's a custom button on the left edge of the phone that you can program two different quick access apps into. Mine is set for phone and camera. There's also a connector below the custom button for connecting Ulefone accessories. There's a a headphone jack that is protected by a waterproof cover, and an ir led that you can program to operate your tv as well. When you first boot up the phone, you will see a message asking if you want to transfer your old phones apps and data to the new one, which you do by linking the two phones together with the provided usb c to usb c cable that comes with the Ulefone, then just follow the instructions on both of the phones. And speaking of the usb c cable, you will probably need to use the charger that comes with the phone as it provides the power necessary to charge that big battery. I tried using the 2w Samsung charger, but the phone used more power than that charger could even provide. As I keep exploring this phone. I know I'll discover more new features, but for now this info should suffice. This phone is a terrific bargain compared to the flagship phones offered by others, not to mention it is armored, in case you tend to be rough or clumsy with your phones. Do not be afraid to buy one of these. I don't think you'll be sorry.
