ESSENTIAL COOLING SYSTEM TOOL
This tool is an absolute “must have” for anyone who performs cooling system repairs on a routine basis. Instantly increased my productivity by reducing long drawn out air bleed procedures to mere minutes. There are many variations of this tool available in the marketplace. But the old adage holds true…”You get what you pay for”. Now owning it for a few months, the solid metal construction of the Airlift shows no wear with everyday use, has proven to be a valued resource, and perform s flawlessly. I love tools that pay for themselves in less than a week! The only regret I have is that I didn’t buy it years ago!
PROS:
Solid construction, ease of use, minimal moving parts, consistent performance, increased productivity
CONS:
Basic single compartment storage container is not padded. With all the loose parts free to move around, the vacuum gauge could potentially get damaged at some point.
Adding my own protective foam inserts wasn’t a big deal, but it would have been nice to see that keeping your tool investment free from damage was a higher priority.

What do I need this thing for?
After reading the reviews on various tools of this sort and an immediate need for a this kind of tool I settled on this brand. I decided to go mid range on the price and this tool had high ratings. Not using a tool like this before to add coolant to a cooling system I was a bit apprehensive as to how it would work.
The application I needed it for was on a class A motor home that would not accept the fluids by gravity flow. I knew how much fluid I had drained from the system but could not inject the same amount by filling the recovery bottle, as this was the only means to get fluid into the system. The heater core being the highest component in the system seemed to create the problem. Upon a “How to” search I learned about the process of using the vacuum method to charge the system.
How did it work? — The tool is well built and the adaptors that came with the tool served me well. I had to mount the tool on the recovery bottle and since I was changing all the hoses I put a vacuum test on the system to see how the tool worked. It pulled a heavy vacuum and held it for hours before I changed hoses. I did a radiator flush and had to add water to the system and all went as expected. After changing all the hoses I put a vacuum on the system to see if all the fittings were tight and it held a vacuum for over 24 hours. This was an indicator the tool sealed well to the recovery bottle and that there would not be any leaks in the new hose joints. The screen on the charging hose was not an issue for me as the fluids were sucked into the system in short order. This was about 4 1/2 gallons in a 5 gal. bucket. There was still a vacuum in the system when the system was full. Because the gauge is on top of the unit and my recovery bottle is elevated I had to use a mirror to read the dial which was not a problem.
i have a 5 horse compressor in my shop and air pressure set at 125 psi. Using 100 ft of air hose to the RV it pulled the vacuum down in about 2 min. This tool uses two hoses. One for the vacuum and one for the fluid transfer. I found no problem with the interchange of the hoses and the ball valves worked well. I did elevate the 5 gal bucket with the antifreeze to the proximity of the recovery bottle to help the transfer.
The directions were plain enough to get the job done and after playing with the tool a bit it all fell into place. Mission accomplished!
I would recommend this tool for the quality and ease of use. Unless you break this unit it should last a long time. I am glad I bought this one.

Excellent Vacuum Coolant Filler and Leak-Checker!
This is a really nice, high-quality vacuum coolant filler. Not cheap, but you pay for quality of which I have no doubt this will last for many years. Its construction is all heavy-duty metal, brass I believe, and all the valves are solid, high-quality pieces as well. I’ve seen some made of plastic or cheap metal which would probably be fine for occasional home DIY use but not for repeated, professional use.
There are a few rubber adapters included but I’ve found the cone adapter is all you really need. I have used some of the other adapters but that usually requires pinching off the overflow tube which isn’t a big deal but it is an additional step.
Filling is a very satisfying process! The radiator hoses get vacuumed flat and the coolant just flies into the cooling system. Very cool. Once the needle reaches zero, you’re done. Quick and easy. You may have to top up the coolant a bit. Also, if the vacuum gauge moves (before filling with coolant), then you have a possible leak somewhere. It’s an excellent system and product.

Perfect tool for the job
This product worked great for my application! My truck has a rear mounted radiator which is a PITA to purge air out of the system. The included instructions were great and the packaging/tool are of quality.
This tool made changing out the water pump easy! My system holds 5 gallons of coolant and was filled in under 5 minutes. Not only does this fill your system, making sure there are no air pockets, but itâs also verifying your systems sealed (if it holds a vacuum).

Time saved is worth more than the cost
This tool is a must have. I bought this specifically for my ls engine after researching about changing the coolant and finding out air pockets can be common. Not wanting to risk overheating I thought I would try it.
Super easy to hook up, draws down all of the air in the system in less than a minute with a small homeowner air compressor. Worst case you could always close the valve and let the compressor cycle before drawing more vacuum if your compressor is really small.
Switch to the fill attachment after you have sucked some antifreeze to fill the tube, connect it and open the valve on the head and then the tube and it will fill the system on both sides of the thermostat in less than a minute. After the gauge reads zero, remove the gauge heat from the overflow, replace the cap and youâre done.
No air in the system. This tool is worth the cost just for the time savings alone, not to mention no mess, and no risk of an air pocket by your thermostat possibly causing overheating and possible engine damage.
The tool is very well made with brass ball valves and a nice gauge.
If youâre reading these reviews, just buy it.

I seldom write reviews but for this tool I’m happy to. Used it to purge an air lock and flush the cooling system of a 2001 VW Passat. Worked extremely well. Evacuated the air in less than a minute, then sucked in fresh coolant within the next couple of minutes. I’d tried to eliminate the heater core air lock a few times before using other bleeding techniques. None worked. This worked first try. Also, tool is sturdy and well built.
